Prayer Shawls

Prayer Shawl ministries are a well loved institution for many churches. Members either knit or crochet a simple shawl and have it blessed. Anyone who is sick, who needs love and compassion, who needs a prayer and hugs, can receive a prayer shawl.
In mid 2013 with a sign from God, Jan Zykowski brought up the idea of a Prayer Shawl Ministry. With a few ladies, some yarn and a desire to help bring comfort to the hurting and the Prayer Shawl Ministry was in full swing. Now on any given Sunday, knitting and crocheting needles can be seen flashing all over the congregation as the ladies work on their beautiful designs. Bishop Bruce especially loves to see them during the service quietly at their task while listening to the sermon.
Jan’s encouragement has resulted in scarves and hats for all in need of an extra warm hug and prayer. Recipients have included the homeless, cancer patients, and preemies.
The Blessing of the Shawls is held whenever there are about a dozen or so prayer shawls completed. It is a simple but beautiful ceremony, and after the blessing, the shawls are available for those who need them. Please see Amanda to select a prayer shawl if you know someone with a need.
